Starting next week, water levels on the canal will decrease to winter levels (bring on the skating season!), starting between Long Island and Hog’s Back on Wednesday and to Dow’s Lake on Friday. Water levels will fall between Burritt’s Rapids and Long Island and Clowes and Merrickville beginning Oct. 29.
This year’s boating season was slightly truncated this year, with the canal opening later than usual in May, due to pandemic restrictions.
The Rideau Canal Skateway is expected to open sometime in January, depending on the weather. Last year’s skating season ended after 26 days, among the shortest on record.
