Animal Crossing: New Horizons
It is not great timing if you’re in trying to unload your turnips before they rot on Sunday. Nintendo’s online services appear to be experiencing issues right now, meaning that you won’t be able to visit other people’s islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Nintendo’s server status page lists problems with “all network services”, and this does not seem to be planned. If you want to keep an eye on things for yourself, keep an eye on this page to see when things might be coming back up.
Playing myself, I was able to access the Nintendo eShop but got a server communication error when attempting to visit someone else’s island. The Switch shows error code 2219-2502, which says “This error code indicates an error occurred when connecting to the service, likely the result of a temporary service outage or a high volume of user access.”
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been one of the unlikeliest hits of Nintendo’s Switch lineup, serving as both an alternate life and a means of socialization for millions around the world still under lockdowns due to the coronavirus. That makes a server outage especially cutting: it’s hard to have one of your major windows into the world and sources of comfort go down.
Hopefully, this will all be resolved soon, so check back for updates. The game seems to have been down for about an hour. I’m sure there are plenty of people loading their inventories up with turnips to get on a plane and sell whenever the servers come back online, so all I can say is: good luck.
